That does appear to be the case. I think the tape with Vulpecula and Lepus implies as much, as well, but--

Did something happen that they simply took advantage of? Or did they do this? Are any of the originals in on it at all?

So it certainly was not done with his consent, but neither is he fully gone, if he was still here. Questions answered only in his case, I suppose.
